The Right-Sized Implant
To appear natural, your implants must be proportional to your body shape. While breast augmentation innately makes the breasts larger, selecting overly large implants can make the result look unnatural. The opposite also holds true. Choosing implants too small for your frame can make your breasts look misshapen. Your height, build and breast skin quality are all factors in determining the right-sized implant.
What you want are Goldilocks implants – not too large, not too small, but just right for your body.
Silicone Implants
Breast implants are available in two types: saline and silicone. For the most natural look and feel, silicone is preferable.
Silicone breast implants come in several types. The popular gummy bear implants (so called because they hold their shape even if the shell breaks) add volume and feel soft to the touch. They do cost more than traditional silicone implants.
Implant Placement Options
Implant placement options consist of subglandular and submuscular. With the former, the implants are placed below the breast tissue and above the chest muscle. The latter involves placing implants below the chest muscle and breast tissue. The option that appears more natural depends on the patient’s build.
For instance, the subglandular route works well if the woman has sufficient breast tissue to cover the implants. If there’s an insufficient amount of natural breast tissue, this placement isn’t going to look natural.
On the other hand, submuscular breast implants are concealed by the chest wall. Only breast tissue is felt.
Breast Implant Shape
Teardrop-shaped implants provide the most natural breast augmentation results. These implants allow the breasts to look just as natural when you lay down as when you are sitting or standing. The tapered top and rounder bottom of teardrop implants most resemble natural breast shape. Due to its construction, the teardrop implant is not prone to rippling as may prove the case with saline implants.
Incision Options
Keep in mind that silicone breast implants are pre-filled, unlike saline implants. That means slightly larger incisions are required. Saline implants are filled once the shell has been placed, and the incisions are smaller.
