Breast augmentation is a highly sought-after cosmetic surgery procedure, and surgical techniques are being constantly improvised to allow the patient to recovery faster and resume their normal lifestyle in the shortest possible timeframe. While the recovery period is not too long, but it is an important part of the treatment process in order to achieve sterling and astounding results.
An experienced plastic surgeon will give detailed instructions for post-op care to help the patient achieve safer and faster recovery. Dr. Wright Jones is a dedicated plastic surgeon providing breast augmentation and other procedures. Dr. Jones receives patients from Atlanta, Buckhead, Stockbridge, Marietta GA, and surrounding communities.
Initial Recovery Period
Breast augmentation plastic surgery will typically involve a recovery period of about three days to a week, before the patient is ready to resume her daily tasks gradually. However, the first week does not have to be spent lying in the bed, and walking and light physical activity is encouraged. Mild pain and discomfort is likely to be experienced in the first week, which can be managed with prescribed pain medications.
That actual downtime and the period required to make a complete recovery is primarily dependent on the type of surgical technique used, the location of incisions, the size of implants, the position of the implants in the breast tissue, and the patient’s natural healing ability.
Need for Surgical Garments
Surgical garments are a vital part of the recovery process. If the implants have been placed submuscularly, the cosmetic surgeon may recommend the patient to wear a two-inch wrap-around bandage just above the breast. Implant support is important during the initial recovery period to ensure that it gains harmony with the breast tissue and muscle, resulting in a natural look.
In case of a subglandular implant placement, the patient may wear a regular bra, but preferably without underwiring. Dr. Jones will advise the patients regarding all post-op recovery issues, and help them achieve a smooth and quick recovery. Patients in Atlanta, Buckhead, Stockbridge, Marietta GA, and nearby locations have an opportunity to receive treatment from him.
Follow-up Visits
In some cases, the surgeon may ask the patient to visit them the very next after surgery. It may be necessary to check for hematoma or other complications. If the incisions have been closed with conventional sutures, the surgeon may remove them during the patient’s visit after a week.
During the follow-up visits, the surgeon will also look for any signs of itching or irritation in the treated area, which may indicate the development of an infection. An antibiotics prescription is usually prescribed immediately after surgery to minimize the risk of infection.
Massage
A massage regimen may be followed during the recovery period to facilitate desirable positioning of the implants, and building flexibility to minimize the risk of capsular contracture. A light massage may be enough to break up any scar tissue development. A breast massage can be performed for about 15 to 20 minutes twice a day for as long as required during the recovery process.
